Skills-Based Model
This is the heart of the Academy. Every child learns at their own pace, and it's common for children to feel anxious, bored, frustrated, or disinterested when classroom expectations don't match their abilities. When expectations are aligned with a student's skill level, they are more likely to thrive. The key is finding the "zone of proximity" where students are challenged just enough to stay engaged in learning. Harbor Christian Academy is designed to identify each student's zone and teach to that skill level, allowing progression once skills are mastered.
Engagement Through Challenge
Students stay motivated when challenged at just the right level for their abilities.
Personalized Approach
Each student receives individualized attention tailored to their unique learning needs.
Aligned Expectations
Learning goals match each student's current skill level and developmental stage.
Progression Bases on Mastery
Students advance when they've truly mastered skills, ensuring solid foundations.
Most schools promote students based on age and a one-size-fits-all curriculum, but this often leads to gaps in learning among students of the same age. At Harbor Christian Academy, we believe this approach doesn't work for every child. That's why we use a skills-based promotion system—students advance when they've mastered the skills, not based on age.
