Self Regulation Skills
The ability to regulate emotions, actions, and feelings can often be interfered with by a heightened nervous system. A neurodivergent student struggles with a different nervous system regulator. Imagine, if you will, a remote control to a television that is always set to the highest level and you can't turn it down because it is stuck! Therefore, we will provide training and opportunities for the student to recognize when they are overstimulated and give them a space to deregulate, decompress, or merely rest until they feel "unstuck" and can return to class feeling calm and in control of themselves. This is a critical skill for our students to help them advocate for themselves when they need a break to make it through the day.
